After a year’s break to permit them to participate in a prestigious event at the Royal Albert Hall, London, Bolton Cancer Voices are back this December with their popular, annual ‘Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long’ concert.
In a double-first they will be joined by Besses Boys’ Band, who last year celebrated their 75th Birthday and Bolton’s own Cottontown Chorus: Dr Kevin Jones – a practising Consultant Physician who’s been on the comedy and after-dinner circuit for over 30 years and last year wowed audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe, is charged with keeping the whole evening running smoothly!
A multi-award winning Male Voice Choir, The Cottontown Chorus is a tour de force on the UK acapella scene; competing both nationally and internationally and drawing members from across the North West and beyond! Founded 40 years ago by local ‘lads’ – George Denton, Walter Marriner, Terry Smith and Brian Turner – known as ‘The Four Strops’, they could never have imagined the phenomenally successful group they were laying the foundations for!
An accomplished Second Section Band, Besses Boys’ Band has a rich history, which has seen them performing throughout Great Britain, in Europe and Australia: even performing for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11. The Band is extremely proud of the work it does encouraging and developing the talent, professionalism and passion of young musicians; many of whom have gone on to play with celebrated organizations including Brighouse & Rastrick Band, Foden’s Band, the Halle Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Coldstream Guards.
At just 7 years old, Bolton Cancer Voices is by comparison just starting out on their incredible musical journey. The Choir continues to grow in strength, confidence and technical ability. Determined to do things their way and stand up to cancer, the Choir has been capturing hearts and imaginations: and earning the respect and support of audiences with accomplished, enthusiastic, uplifting performances.
Karen Elliott – Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said:
‘We love our ‘Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long’ concerts and are very-much looking forward to this year’s.
We’re privileged to have some fantastic guests with us: it will be a night not to be missed! Intended to appeal to the whole family, there’s always such a great atmosphere: it really adds a touch of sparkle and cheer to your Christmas countdown.
As well as providing a great night’s entertainment, we do need the event to generate some much-needed income towards the cost of running, developing and offering fantastic opportunities to the Choir. The Choir is free to members to ensure accessibility for all, so donations and fundraising are our life-blood! For the first time we have two businesses kindly supporting ‘Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long’ – Bread and Butter Advice and Positive Pennine, which will help us maximise the potential profit from the event. We can’t thank them enough for the interest they have shown in our Choir.’
‘Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long’ takes place on Saturday 7th December, 6-45pm, at the Victoria Hall, Bolton BL1 2AS.
Tickets price £10-00 (£5-00 under 19s) are available from the Ticket Secretary – 01204 595562 / 07773 164235: www.trybooking.co.uk/7863 and the Victoria Hall Box Office.
