VOICES GROWING STRONGER
Date Posted: 20-05-2014
In the first few months of the year Bolton Cancer Voices has recruited no less than a dozen new members to their ranks but with a target membership of 70 they are still looking for more people to join their unique Choir for cancer patients and cancer survivors.
The only criterion for membership is that you must be a cancer patient at any stage in your cancer journey or a cancer survivor, regardless of the time elapsed since your diagnosis. To ensure the Choir is accessible to all no singing experience is necessary; you don’t need to be able to read music; there are no auditions and no fees to worry about. The Choir accepts people from any geographical area as long as they can get to the centre of Bolton for rehearsals, where new members are assured of a warm welcome.
Karen Elliott, Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said:
There are no less than 14 individual tumour types represented in the Choir and recent analysis shows that a third of our members joined within 12 months of receiving their diagnosis; with the shortest period being 2 weeks post diagnosis and the longest 55 years! We have also found that many members believe they benefit physically, mentally or emotionally from their membership, which is wonderful to hear.
There’s a brilliant energy and atmosphere to the Choir, which it’s hard to do justice to in words you really need to come and experience it for yourself; I would encourage anyone who meets our membership criterion to do just that so please get in touch.’
The Choir meets on Monday evenings 7.30pm-9pm at the Friends Meeting House, Silverwell Street, Bolton.
